Joanne wins our You Made a Difference Award for stroke pathway work

Joanne with Magda Smith

Magda and Joanne Joanne O’Driscoll, Sentinel Stroke National Audit Project Administrator, is the latest winner of our You Made a Difference award for her work in improving our stroke referral pathways.

Joanne was nominated by Nicola Ellsmore, Stroke and Neurology Manager at NELFT. Nicola described how Joanne had improved the referral pathway for patients who have had a stroke and need to be reviewed six months later by the NELFT stroke service. Previously, the service was dealing with inappropriate referrals. However, Joanne’s work has meant our referrals have improved, reducing time wasted from both our Trust and NELFT and has improved how we work in partnership.

In her nomination, Nicola wrote: “I believe Jo deserves some recognition and appreciation for the work she has been doing to help a neighbouring NHS Trust. Her support is just one example of good partnership working between our organisations providing benefits not only for staff but also primarily for our patients across the whole stroke pathway by minimising waiting times.”

The award was presented by Chief Medical Officer Magda Smith, and it was a total surprise for Joanne who described receiving the award as “overwhelming”.

Joanne described how the award felt extra special as it came from someone in a partner organisation who took the time to show their appreciation: “We tried a new way of working which is better for patients as they are not being referred incorrectly and are getting a better service. It’s working well for everyone so we’re all happy. Colleagues at NELFT did write an email to say thank you which I was chuffed with at the time. The nomination shows how much it is appreciated when you try to work together as a team.”

If you know someone who deserves recognition for going above and beyond, why not nominate them for a You Made a Difference award. More information and the nomination form can be found on our website.
