TV star Stacey Solomon paid our Trust a visit yesterday (Wednesday 4 July) to judge our Big Birthday Cake Bake Off – a joint celebration of the 70th birthday of the NHS and the 25th birthday of King George Hospital.

She also took some time to visit patients on some of our wards.

Stacey said: “This Trusts hold a special place in my heart as both my children were born at your hospitals.

“Every NHS experience I’ve had has been wonderful and I’m really grateful for that. It’s really important to celebrate the 70th birthday; and the NHS in general. It’s a phenomenal system which we’re all privileged to use.

“All the staff work tirelessly and I appreciate everything you do, so a massive thank you to you all.”

Stacey judged the Big Birthday Cake Bake Off alongside our Chief Nurse, Kathryn Halford, and our Lead trust Chaplain, Phil Wright.

The winner of the golden spoon ‘Star Baker’ award was Emily Snelling, Senior Clinical Coder.

Emily’s impressive cake was made up of two layers, Guinness chocolate and lemon, and was decorated with various uniforms of medical professionals.

She said: “It was amazing to win. There was stiff competition, all the other cakes looked really yummy, so I didn’t expect it.

“It took my around three evenings to make and I really enjoyed it. I started baking for family and friends after I took an evening class and I really got into it. It’s great fun.”
