Student Summer Volunteer Programme ends on high

college of volunteer photos

Our student summer volunteer programme ended on a high note last Tuesday (18 August).

12 students from local colleges spent 6 weeks understanding what it’s like to work in one of our hospitals. All the students had been selected by their college to take part in our first student volunteer summer programme. They got to experience first-hand what career options are available to them and the pathways into those careers.

While all of the students had decided on a career in healthcare, some had a very firm idea of what they wanted to do. Some others were undecided and thought that the programme will help assist in their decision.

Supported by teams and individuals in varying specialties, staff signed-up to welcome the students sharing their time, expertise and knowledge, a huge thank you is extended to everyone for their contribution.

The students spent time shadowing staff within therapy teams, maternity, main entrance, end of life care and the chaplaincy team. Ten students graduated during our conference day where staff talked about their career progression, options available for apprenticeships, or academic routes in to nursing or AHP.
