More than 700 residents receive free lung health check

Targeted Lung Health Check programme rolled out across Barking and Dagenham

Over 700 Barking and Dagenham residents have taken advantage of a free opportunity to have their lungs scanned, as a result of a Lung Health Check programme for people aged 55 to 74 who have ever smoked.

We are delighted to be a part of this pilot, and due to its success, the North East London Cancer Alliance is looking to roll it out across more boroughs.

November is lung cancer awareness month and we’re working hard with the Alliance to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms, as well as promote the Lung Health Check programme. It’s also crucial to raise awareness to the fact that non-smokers can also get lung cancer.

The BBC visited the lung scanning truck in Barking and Dagenham earlier this month for a programme on BBC Newsnight, to look at the hard work taking place to help spot cancer sooner.

If you have any symptoms of lung cancer, be safe and get checked by your GP.
