Kindhearted children from Farnham Green Primary School, Ilford, made the day of our elderly dementia patients at King George Hospital, by paying a visit to read to them.

Five children from year six came to the hospital on Friday 21 June and read to patients on the elderly care ward from a number of books, including short stories and even a book about the environment.

For patients facing long hospital stays, this visit from local schoolchildren really brightened their day and kept them amused.

Lucy McLean, child and family worker at the school, said: “We do this to help boost the confidence of our year six children before they go to secondary school, as well as to give back to the community.

“They have read to other children before but never adults so they were apprehensive but it went really well. They had a really good time and the patients seemed to enjoy it too. We’re hoping to come again.
