We’re delivering a new model of maternity support to enhance the experience of pregnant women registered to receive care at Queen’s Hospital.

The Hilltop Team, a new midwifery unit, offers flexible working patterns to its staff which benefits patients too. Taking time off for antenatal appointments isn’t always easy for many women and this new service provides a 24-hour high standard of care from the antenatal, through to the delivery and postnatal, periods. Women will be able to choose between a home or clinic visit, and also evening appointments.

Anna Peacock, our Maternity Matron and Hilltop Team Line Manager, said: “Giving women access to antenatal and postnatal support at a time that is more convenient to them is at the centre of this project. Every woman is different and this type of care programme is focused on the woman, her baby and her family, and the decisions that they want to make.”

NHS England laid out this vision for maternity services in the Better Births plan, launched in 2016. The aim is for maternity care to become safer and more personalised, which in turn will improve outcomes for women and their families and the overall experience of pregnancy and childbirth.

The Hilltop Team, which currently comprises of six midwives and a maternity care assistant, is based in a community hub in Harold Hill. Our team will work alongside the existing community and hospital midwifery teams, and the obstetric team.
