Asmita and Bukky made a difference

Asmita receiving her award

Two members of staff have been presented with You Made a Difference Awards for their fantastic work at our Trust.

Asmita receiving her award Asmita Devtoka, a sister on our Frailty Unit at Queen’s Hospital, was presented with her award by Deputy Chief Executive Ben Morrin (pictured right).

Asmita was nominated by her colleague, Duty Matron Hawanatu Babatunde, for going ‘beyond her role and expectations’ to improve her unit.

The nomination read: “She has been in an acting manager now for six months. Within this time frame she has shown her full dedication and 100 per cent effort in the ward and in our patients’ experience improvement.”

Asmita is credited for intuitively improving the handover process by creating a new handover sheet, a care flow pathway to allow everyone to know their division aims, an electronic huddle process, and much more.

Hawanatu concluded in her nomination: “As a Duty Matron, I always feel safe and confident when Asmita is in the ward. For all these small and big changes, she deserves our thanks for her hard work.”

Ben was also on hand to present an award to Community Nurse Bukky Ogunyawo, from our Queen’s Hospital Birth Centre.

Bukky was nominated by Consultant Midwife Rosemary Idiaghe, who highlighted Bukky’s “exemplary leadership” when supporting her team to assist a woman in achieving the homebirth she had wished for.

The nomination read: “The woman had two previous caesarean sections and the baby was in the breech position, but she desperately wanted to have a home birth.

“Bukky demonstrated exemplary leadership with courage and passion in supporting her team to assist this.

“I am proud of the team's resilience, ability to support choice of birth location, their team spirit and collaboration, and, above all, for putting the woman at the heart of everything they do as team.

“I believe Bukky and her team have truly made a difference to the woman, her family and our maternity services.”

If you know someone who works at our hospitals and really makes a difference, then nominate them for our monthly You Made a Difference Award. More information and the nomination form can be found on our website.
