We’re supporting the national campaign run by NHS Blood and Transplant to encourage more people to donate blood – by removing the letters A, O and B, which make up the blood groups, from our name on Twitter.

The campaign, supported by companies and organisations across the country who have also removed letters from their titles, raises awareness of the blood types and asks for donors to help fill the gaps.

Julie Wright, our Lead Transfusion Practitioner said: “We’re really proud to be supporting this campaign.

“As the sixth biggest user of blood in London, we know the importance of having enough to provide transfusions to our patients when they need them. Campaigns like this are really important as they help to make people realize that simply by donating blood, you could save someone’s life.”

We used 14,261 units of red blood cells last year – and constantly needs to top up our supplies to give life-saving blood transfusions to our patients.
