Resident doctor strike

From Wednesday 17 to Monday 22 December, resident doctors (formerly known as junior doctors) will be taking strike action. During this time, our services will be under increased pressure.

Getting the right care

Please help us make sure emergency care is available for those who need it most:

  • Only attend A&E in life-threatening emergencies.
  • For non-urgent issues, please contact your GP, your local pharmacy, or NHS 111 (online or by phone).

Appointments and planned care

  • If your appointment is affected, we will contact you directly.
  • If you do not hear from us, please attend your appointment as planned.

Welcome to Lorna Gibson, our new Urgent and Emergency Care Improvement Director

Lorna Gibson has joined us as our Urgent and Emergency Care Improvement Director across Barts Health and BHRUT. This is a new role within our collaboration, funded nationally as part of the SOF4 support offer to our Trust.

Urgent and emergency care is a key programme within the collaboration, contributing to wider sustainable improvement in both organisations.

Lorna will coordinate the programme of collaborative improvement work in UEC across all our acute hospitals, working with senior clinicians and transformation and operations leads, with an early focus on Queen’s Hospital.

Lorna (pictured below) joins us on secondment from a senior role in the NHSE/I national intensive support team, where she has been providing improvement support to a number of challenged systems. Prior to this she has had extensive operations experience in a number of large London teaching hospitals.
