A maternity bed at Queen’s Hospital has been the star of a new daytime TV show on BBC One.

The show, which ran for 15 episodes from Monday 14 November, followed a certain bed at four hospitals across the country.

Our Maternity department at Queen’s Hospital took part in the show, with our midwives and other staff filmed as they helped local mums give birth on maternity bed seven.

Called the Secret Life of a Hospital Bed, the series focused on the journey of the bed and the patients who use it, looking at the hospital experience from a different perspective than other hospital programmes.

Wendy Matthews, our Director of Midwifery, said:

“Our Maternity unit is an exciting place to be, on average delivering 20 babies daily, so this was a great opportunity for us to showcase the hard work of our midwives and the rest of the team who support local mothers during the birth of their babies.”

Episodes of the show can be watched on the BBC iPlayer.
