Two wards at our hospitals have been recognised for providing great care and support to patients nearing the end of their lives, and their families.

We’ve introduced a new team of clinical nurse specialists (CNS) to support local children living with asthma.

It was a real case of being in the right place at the right time for Jack Stevens, our lead nurse for emergency care and acute medicine, when he saved the life of a fellow motorist on Wednesday 4 September.

Rachael Lewis was the recent winner of our You Made a Difference Award after being put forward by patient partner Sara Turle. Rachael, who has just moved into a new role as a discharge coordinator, was nominated for her work as a healthcare assistant on our Sunflower Suite. Sara wanted Rachael to be recognised for the compassion she shows for her patients and their loved ones.

Charlie Richardson, a 71-year-old volunteer at our Trust, completed his second daring challenge on Saturday (7 September).

This week spoke to Fawad Hussain, a dermatology consultant who recently took on a new role in our Trust, as Site Medical Director at King George Hospital.

Lives: In Hornchurch with his wife and two sons aged six and two-months-old.

And: Medicine was certainly in his genes – his father and three older siblings all went into medicine before him. And his wife is a GP.

The National Organ Donation Week drew to a close on Sunday 8 September, however, a mother has shared her story to ensure the important messages about organ donation are not forgotten.
