Tabassum Kokhar (pictured) , honorary Muslim chaplain at our Trust, set off on her Hajj pilgrimage on Tuesday 28 June.

Hajj is an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, which all Muslims must carry out at least once in their lifetime. It starts on Thursday 7 July and ends on Tuesday 12 July.

Tabassum said: “I am truly blessed to be embarking on this journey, going to Hajj pilgrimage is an honour from God (Allah) and an invitation to purification and prayer. It’s one of the best and most righteous deeds and is the fifth pillar of Islam.

“On my return to the UK, I intend to lead my life with simplicity and contentment. My chaplaincy role gives me contentment and is a great opportunity to help patients in need. It’s extremely rewarding and allows me to give something back to the community.

“I will also continue to participate in charity work which means so much to me, and inshallah (God willing), will share my Hajj experience with whoever it may benefit.”
