Two dedicated colleagues at our Trust are getting on their running shoes to take part in different upcoming marathons.

Both will be raising money for the King George and Queen’s Hospitals Charity.

Colorectal consultant Matt Hanson (left), 45, will be taking part in the London Marathon this April, hoping to raise £5,000.

He’s well versed in marathon running, having run the London one once before and even taken part in 100 mile ultra-marathons.

He said: “This allows me to bring two of my passions together, my love of running and passion for my role at our Trust by raising money for own hospitals’ charity.

“I’ve had lots of colleagues sponsor me already, which I’m really grateful for, and I’m planning to run some fundraising events to help top up my total in the run up to the marathon.”

While many of see exercise go out of the winder when we become parents, Matt, of Mile End, actually got back into running after the birth of his first daughter, Jemima, 12.

Ellen Kyriacou (below), 52, our charity’s accountant, will be running the Vitality Big Half, a half-marathon in London on Sunday 10 March.

The challenge has helped Ellen to get fit again after giving up running eight years ago.

You can also sponsor Ellen online.

We have another place in the Vitality Big Half open for a keen runner who would like to raise money for a great cause after someone was forced to drop out due to injury. If you’d like to find out more, call 01708 504 335.
