A special ceremony was held in the Lavender Garden at Queen’s Hospital to dedicate memorial stones in memory of former colleagues who had passed away.

Short readings were given about each of our four staff members, with family, friends and colleagues invited to attend.

One of the stones was dedicated to Lauren Corver, who worked in our medical admin team for over 25 years.

Alongside her colleagues, her family including dad Derek, brother Carl and sister Michelle Constable, attended the ceremony.

Derek, 88, said: “She was completely dedicated to the hospital and made so many friends so it’s nice that she’ll be remembered here.

“I’m a very proud father. She was a very devoted girl and so many people thought so much of her, we all did, and it’s nice to know that and see it here today.”

Lauren, 59, died in January this year. Her memorial stone affectionately reads ‘Lauren, forever blowing bubbles’ in reference to her passion for West Ham, which she shared with her father and the two loved to watch matches together.

The other stones were dedicated to:

Sue Breen-Bloom, a nurse who worked at the Trust for 20 years. Her colleagues loved her for her caring nature, intelligence, wicked sense of humour and great work ethic. She was mum to Saoirse and Sophia.

Ken Jones, a porter of 15 years at the Trust. He was a hard worker who always had a smile for every patient and all staff.

John Couch, while he didn’t work for the Trust, John’s stone was laid as a thank you to his widow Yvonne, a volunteer who helps to maintain the hospital’s lavender garden, as a place of solace and tranquility for patients and staff alike.

All stones were dedicated following a donation to our charity, the King George and Queen’s Hospitals Charity.
