The national Overseas NHS Workers Day, which was started by the Doctors’ Association UK in 2021, was celebrated on Friday 4 March.

Our Trust has a wealth of workers from all over the world across a range of roles and departments. While we appreciate their contribution all year round – this is a great opportunity to let them know by saying thank you!

Nurse Jincy Jose (pictured) is one of our overseas colleagues, having started her career in her home country, India, she also spent ten years working in Kuwait before joining our Trust last March.

She said: “I wanted to come here because I felt UK nurses are more valued. We can talk about our vision and our opinions are listened to.

“It’s very different here so I found it difficult at first as there was so much to learn about how to deal with patients and staff. Day by day I got to know more and I feel really good now, I’m learning every day. I’ve always felt very supported here, especially by the Senior Intern team.”

Jincy, works on Tropical Lagoon, our children’s ward at Queen’s Hospital. She has two children of her own, a daughter, nine, and five-year-old son and when she first moved to the UK, she came alone. However, now her husband and children have joined her, she feels much more at home.

She added: “It’s nice to have a day to recognise overseas NHS workers, I think it’s important.”
