On Father’s Day (Sunday 18 June), five-year-old Dominic Barker (above) completed a three-mile sponsored walk in memory of his dad James Barker, (pictured below with Dominic), who passed away in February this year aged just 39.

Dominic, who wore his dad’s favourite cap on the walk, wanted to raise money for the King George and Queen’s Hospitals charity, to thank the staff who cared for James. He had hoped to raise around £150 but thanks to generous support, raised over £2,600.

Dominic’s mum and James’ wife Emma, of Collier Row, said: "I’m so proud of Dom for what he’s achieved – I know James would be proud.

"Dom wanted to say a huge thanks to the nurses and doctors who looked after his dad."

After completing the walk at King George Playing Field, Dominic’s grandparents and mum presented him with a medal and trophy. Then he enjoyed playing in the park with his friends.

The funds raised will go towards making a difference to patients, staff and families by funding projects that go over and above NHS funding to improve our hospitals for everyone.
