For Amin Salem (pictured), a consultant paediatrician at our Trust, Ramadan is the most important month of the year, and while working and fasting at the same time is not without its challenges; Ramadan provides him with inner strength to get through it.

He said: “Ramadan has significant spiritual and religious effects for all Muslims that provide us with a huge amount of inner strength. You can say it’s the month that charges the battery for the rest of the year.

“For me, and I am sure others, we work even harder during Ramadan. We can feel a bit of headache or tiredness, however, the inner strength provided far exceeds these minor issues. As well as being important for us as individuals, Ramadan has an important role in our communities in the way of charity and helping the needy. ”

With Ramadan coming to an end this week, Amin is looking forward to breaking the fast with his loved ones, and to one of life’s simple pleasures.

He added: “During fasting I miss having a cup of coffee, so I’ll be appreciating this even more after Ramadan.”
