2021: Our year in numbers

From over 143,000 Covid jabs given in our vaccine hubs, to more than 50 meetings held by our five staff networks to support our workforce – despite the ongoing unprecedented nature of the second year of the pandemic, our numbers show how our staff have more than risen to the challenge once again.

During 2021, we had to find new ways of working while maintaining our focus on delivering the best possible care to our patients, and although we faced a number of challenges, we managed to resume planned care and introduced new, innovative super clinics to tackle the patient backlog and ensure those waiting the longest got the care they need.

Our Covid-protected green zone allowed us to get patients the care they needed while also keeping them safe, and we completed 12,468 surgeries in it.

Earlier in the year, we began a new chapter as we welcomed our new Chief Executive, Matthew Trainer, and announced our new Chair in common, Jacqui Smith.

We’ve developed closer relationships with key neighbours, collaborating with other NHS trusts to benefit our patients, and strengthened our partnership with West Ham United.

We also recognised the toll the pandemic has taken on our staff. A crucial priority for this year has been making sure we have the necessary wellbeing measures in place to support them, something which will continue into 2022.
