Stakeholder update from Chief Executive Matthew Trainer: 2 August 2025

Dear colleague,

This week, we’ve welcomed 60 students in years 11, 12, and 13 from local schools and colleges into our hospitals for five-day placements.

Over the next three weeks, these young people will be placed across King George, Queen’s, and Barking Community hospitals across a wide range of services.

It gives the students a real chance to see what we do day-to-day, as well as opening their eyes to the many and varied careers that are available in the NHS.

Since July last year, more than 200 students have completed in-person placements with us. As the largest employer in our local area, we want to have a positive impact and that includes creating opportunities for people to develop skills and access jobs in health and care in the future.

I’m really proud we offer such a valuable programme for our young residents and I hope it encourages many of them to consider a career with us.

Our prostate super list

We recently carried out 14 prostate operations in a single day at our Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital.

These operations, which ranged from 10 to 45 minutes in length, treated urinary problems caused by enlarged prostates.

This is one of the highest numbers of these operations we’ve ever done in one day, which is a great achievement for our teams and great news for our patients. Well done all.

Best wishes,

Matthew Trainer,

Chief Executive
