Stakeholder update from Chief Executive Matthew Trainer: 29 July 2022

We recently held two fantastic days of events, to thank our staff for all their hard work during the pandemic.

Enjoyed by more than 3,500 of our staff and relatives, the events across both Queen’s and King George hospitals included breakfast, afternoon tea, an evening party and a family fun day. Take a look at our video which captured some of the fun our staff deservedly had.

It was one of the one of the best things I’ve been involved in, and it was great to see and hear so much positive feedback.

I’d also like to thank West Ham United for their support in thanking our staff. Ex-players and fan favourites Carlton Cole and Marlon Harewood joined us and enjoyed a cup of tea with staff.

The club’s thanks didn’t stop there and last week we were delighted to welcome first-team stars Łukasz Fabiański and Vladimír Coufal to Queen’s for a surprise visit, when they spent the afternoon with staff and patients.

West Ham United are a huge part of our community and we value the close relationship we have, which continues to grow.

Celebrating South Asian Heritage month

We’re proud to be a diverse organisation which celebrates different cultures. South Asian Heritage Month is being celebrated from Monday 18 July to Wednesday 17 August and this year’s theme is “journeys of empire”.

We’re sharing staff stories throughout the month, explaining what their heritage means to them and how their families made their way to the United Kingdom.

They are a fantastic insight, so please do read what Rajoo Miah, Sadaf Solangi and Tahira Rasool had to say.

Have your say on fertility treatment proposals

NHS North East London (NEL) has set out which fertility treatments they think the local NHS should fund and who should be able to get this treatment.  The aim isn’t to reduce the treatments that the NHS funds or who is eligible to have them, it is to make it sure that wherever you live in NEL, you are able to have the same fertility treatment.

The proposals are likely to increase the amount of treatment residents can have, depending on where they live, and improve access to some treatments.

It’s vital that our communities have their say on the proposals, so please complete and share the survey before 22 August. Find out more on the NEL Health and Care Partnership website.

As the hot weather continues, it’s now the time of year when we can spend some time with friends and family during school holidays.

I will be and I hope you do too, so this will be my last update for a few weeks. I look forward to sharing my next update at the start of September. Keep an eye on our website and social media channels for the latest news.

Best wishes,

Matthew Trainer
Chief Executive
