“She made a terrible time for us much better”

One of our nurses has been called an “absolute star” by the family of a patient who was receiving end of life care at Queen’s Hospital.
Amna Ahad was looking after a patient during a night shift on Cornflower B in January. She was in pain and unsettled and Amna was praised by her daughter for “her determination and passion to manager my mother’s symptoms effectively and promptly”.
Nominating Amna for our You Made a Difference award, the daughter said:
She took a level of responsibility and displayed strong decision making to respond appropriately, empowering me as a carer on the ward to be fully involved in my mum’s care.
“She was a driving factor in my mum having a peaceful night, dealing with pain and discomfort instantly, and therefore resolved and managed perfectly for both my mum and me. Amna ensured she remained in control of presenting symptoms and in all honestly her care was impeccable.
“It is obviously a highly stressful and emotive time, and Amna needs my heartfelt thanks and recognition for a job so well done. I’m not sure she realises the impact she had, and I didn't get the chance to thank her properly as mum died the following day.
“She made a terrible time for us much better and is an absolute star, and we can never thank her enough.
If you know someone who has made a difference in our hospitals, then you can nominate them for our You Made a Difference award.
