Pregnancy

During your pregnancy you will see a variety of healthcare professionals ranging from the Midwife in charge of co-ordinating your care to Sonographers and Obstetricians. You may see the Midwife in your local community clinic or at either Queen’s or King George’s Hospital. Below is a rough outline of when you can expect to see different healthcare professionals, however, each person accessing our service has different needs and we tailor the care accordingly, so you may have more or less appointments that what is outlined below.

Antenatal care planned.

Ultrasound scan is done.

Screening blood tests (T21, T18, T13) taken if consented to.

At the hospital, children’s centre or local midwifery clinic.

Blood and screening results are discussed.

If the combined first trimester screening has been missed, then a blood test (quadruple test) can be done to determine the risk of Down’s Syndrome in this pregnancy (this blood test can be taken up to 20 weeks).

Ultrasound scan to check the physical development of your baby.

Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) if required.

Anti-D injection is given if required and consented to.
