Resident doctor strike

From Wednesday 17 to Monday 22 December, resident doctors (formerly known as junior doctors) will be taking strike action. During this time, our services will be under increased pressure.

Getting the right care

Please help us make sure emergency care is available for those who need it most:

  • Only attend A&E in life-threatening emergencies.
  • For non-urgent issues, please contact your GP, your local pharmacy, or NHS 111 (online or by phone).

Appointments and planned care

  • If your appointment is affected, we will contact you directly.
  • If you do not hear from us, please attend your appointment as planned.

Start your career in the NHS by joining our Trust as a ward clerk

Whether you’re looking for your first job out of education or perhaps you’re considering a career change, we have a fantastic development opportunity for you.

Over the coming months, we will recruit 50 new ward clerks and they will play an integral role in the day-to-day running of our wards, while relieving pressure on our nurses.

Whether it’s admitting patients, preparing notes, booking appointments or speaking with patients’ families, no two days as a ward clerk are the same and it’s a brilliant way to learn how hospitals operate.

The duties our ward clerks undertake will allow clinical staff to concentrate on clinical duties, which will not only improve nurse wellbeing, but it will help with the discharging of patients and improve the flow throughout our hospitals.

Kathryn Halford, Chief Nurse, said: “As a major employer within our communities, we’re delighted to offer this fantastic opportunity to residents across Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge.

“We want to employ from within our own boroughs and the role of a ward clerk is a brilliant way to join the NHS, develop your skills, learn and understand how wards are run and then potentially consider other opportunities within our Trust.”

Successful candidates will be employed as apprentices on a 17-month fixed term contract, and on completion of this period, will move into a band three ward clerk role.
