Star phlebotomist Jaydi praised by expectant mum for putting her at ease during blood test

Jaydi Charles Jaydi Charles (pictured), a senior phlebotomist at our Trust, has been praised by a pregnant patient for putting her at ease when taking her bloods.

The woman had struggled to attend her first scan appointment due to agoraphobia, PTSD and anxiety. However, Jaydi was friendly and amiable, putting her at ease without being patronising, and being kind and professional.

The patient had been accompanied by public health midwife, Vicki Young, and had confided how worried she was about having her bloods taken due to her mental health issues.

Vicki said: “In my eyes, and the patient’s, Jaydi really was a shining star and for this I say thank you!”

Jaydi said: “I wasn’t aware that the lady suffered from mental health issues until Vicki approached me after the patient had left. When dealing with patients you can generally tell if they are nervous or scared by their body language; with this patient I could tell she was nervous but I treated her like every other patient.

“I take pride in my role and always strive to give patients the best experience possible.”

It’s not surprising our patients are recognising how great Jaydi is. The hardworking phlebotomist has recently secured a new role as a band 3 senior phlebotomist, just two years after joining our Trust as an apprentice.

She added:  “I was really grateful for the opportunity given to me but I was also I very shocked as I’ve only been here for two years. However, I was very excited to start my new role, learn new things and take on more responsibilities.”
