Black History Month began on Saturday 1 October, and we’re delighted to kick-off the celebrations with two of our nurses, Evelyn Asiam, palliative care clinical nurse specialist, and geriatric nurse Rabi Sani Santos, named among the Rising Stars of 2022, London region.

For National Inclusion Week, the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED) team have spoken to colleagues in the Cancer and Clinical Support division and on Tulip Ward to find out what inclusion meant to them. 

Our Daisy Volunteer project, run in partnership with Marie Curie, was recognised in the Patient Experience Network National Awards (PENNA) on Wednesday 28 September, winning in the Personalisation of Care category.

Ahead of the funeral of Her Majesty the Queen on Monday, many of our staff joined the thousands of people paying their respects by queuing for several hours to see her lying-in-state.

Following the announcement that Her Majesty the Queen’s funeral will be held on Monday 19 September, and it will be a bank holiday, we are looking at the impact this will have on our services.

Our Surgery team has joined the Orion trial, offering a new surgical treatment for haemorrhoid patients who require surgery, where high oscillating frequency energy is used to heat up and destroy the tissue, shrinking the haemorrhoids.

On Wednesday 7 September we were delighted to welcome Barking and Dagenham Council Leader Darren Rodwell and Health and Wellbeing Board Chair Maureen Worby for a tour of our upgraded diagnostic equipment at Barking Community Hospital, including a new state-of-the-art CT scanner.
