We were delighted to welcome Evan Davis, presenter of BBC Radio 4’s PM programme, to our Emergency Department (ED) at Queen’s Hospital to hear how we’re working hard to keep patients safe despite the ongoing pressure on the local healthcare system.

A focused effort to see and treat patients with a hernia saw around 200 in just one day, with those needing surgery treated just weeks later. A hernia is when an internal organ is pushed through a weakness in the muscle or surrounding tissue wall.

This year, South Asian Heritage Month is being celebrated from Monday 18 July to Wednesday 17 August and this year’s theme is “journeys of empire”.

We’ve held two days of events including an afternoon tea and family fun day, to thank our staff for all their hard work during the pandemic – an evening party even included a band performance with our Chief Executive, Matthew Trainer, on keyboard.

In order to install a new ANPR system on site, work will be taking place at the multistorey car park at Queen’s Hospital on Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 July (between 8.30am and 5pm).
