Congratulations to the Sexual Health and HIV teams at Barking Community Hospital for winning our You Made a Difference award.

They were nominated by our Chief Executive, Matthew Trainer in recognition of the work they have done with the police and the support they provided to survivors of prolific rapist, Jonathan Carl.

Matthew said:

This award is our way of thanking for their work on this case. It is also recognition of the vital role that they play in helping our patients lead safer, better lives.”

"This case was a particularly horrible one and given the stigma that still surrounds HIV and its transmission among gay and bisexual men I imagine many victims will be slow to come forward. I know you will continue to care for and support those affected for years to come.

Our Matron for Women’s Health, Petra Francis said:

I’m proud of my team for continually driving high standards of care that make a difference to our patient’s lives”

"This recognition reflects the high level of commitment shown during the investigation process by our team.

“Lots of this work happens behind the scenes and often goes unseen so I’m pleased to see colleagues including health advisors and administrative staff been recognised too.
