Sheejo Malppan Johny (pictured), a phlebotomist at our Trust, is taking part in the Prudential RideLondon cycling event this weekend to raise funds for the King George and Queen’s Hospitals Charity.

He is keen to give something back to our Trust after colleagues in our Emergency Department and on Clover ward at King George Hospital looked after his son Anthony, who turns two this month, so well when he was brought in with a temperature last year.

Sheejo, 45, said: “It was a really worrying time for my wife and I and the staff were so reassuring and so nice. He was looked after so well.

“I’ve loved cycling since I was a child and regularly cycle to work, so when I read about supporting our charity by taking part in RideLondon in our daily staff update, I thought it would be a great opportunity to raise some money for our Trust.”

It’s the first time Sheejo, of Ilchester Road, Dagenham, has taken part in RideLondon. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s event will be run differently, without lots of cyclists and supporters gathering in central London to take part.

Instead, it will be a virtual event, with cyclists choosing one of four challenges to complete at a time of their choice over the week. They can choose from a 100, 46 or 19 mile ride, or take the option to freecycle for a distance of their choice, starting at 1km.

Sheejo, who joined our Trust in January this year, will be completing a freecycle. He plans to ride from his home to Barking, and onto Queen’s Hospital, approximately 10km.

So far, he’s raised over £160. If you’d like to support him visit his fundraising page.
