Resident doctor strike

From Tuesday 7 to Monday 13 April, resident doctors (formerly known as junior doctors) will be taking strike action. During this time, our services will be under increased pressure.

Getting the right care

Please help us make sure emergency care is available for those who need it most:

  • Only attend A&E in life-threatening emergencies.
  • For non-urgent issues, please contact your GP, your local pharmacy, or NHS 111 (online or by phone).

Appointments and planned care

  • If your appointment is affected, we will contact you directly.
  • If you do not hear from us, please attend your appointment as planned.

Our Magda and Remi talk to BBC Radio 4’s The World This Weekend

BBC Radio 4 logo

Magda Smith, our Chief Medical Officer, and Remi Odejinmi, consultant anaesthetist, spoke to Jonny Dymond on The World This Weekend yesterday (Sunday 14 March).

Magda discussed how our staff managed the second wave of Covid-19, which saw us treating more Covid-19 patients than in the first, and how looking after the wellbeing of our teams will continue to be a priority long after the pandemic is over.

Remi took the opportunity to discuss vaccine hesitancy, encouraging people to read the science and seek out answers from reputable sources before making an informed decision on whether to have the vaccine. She also called the vaccine; ‘the light at the end of the tunnel to allow us to live as we want to live’.

You can listen to the interview online.

This isn’t the first time our Trust has featured on the show during the pandemic. Jonny first visited us in March last year to hear how we were keeping our patients safe. Magda and intensive care consultant Tomas Jovaisa also spoke to Mark Mardell in April.
