New accreditation to help us cut one of our biggest waiting lists

Urogynecology service gets NHS England recognition

Urogynecology service gets NHS England recognition

Our Urogynaecology service has been recognised by NHS England as a specialist centre for carrying out complex operations.

This means our teams will be able to carry out a higher number of complex operations for conditions such as vaginal prolapse and urinary incontinence.

Gynaecology issues make up the majority of our waiting list for women’s-related health issues, with some patients having to wait more than a year for their procedures.

Being recognised as a specialised commissioned centre will mean we can get more women the care they need quicker, reducing our waiting lists and preventing women from having to travel elsewhere.

We’ll also be able to offer our expertise across north east London, working with partners to take referrals for complex cases, helping women get the care they need if their local hospital is unable to carry out a more complex procedure.

Roopa Nair, our Clinical Director for Women’s Health and Urogynaecology Lead, said:

We are delighted to receive this recognition, particularly as it is something the team has been working towards for the last four years.

Urogynaecological conditions can have a significant impact on women’s quality of life and mental health so this will make a huge difference to our patients.
