Mark takes on Wales cycling challenge for our charity

Mark Chinery, Fire and Security Manager at our Trust, is preparing to take on a gruelling three-day cycling challenge next month to support King George & Queen’s Hospitals Charity.
On Thursday 11 September, Mark will be one of just 50 riders taking part in the inaugural RideCymru 2025: Pioneer Ride.
It's a demanding 265-mile journey from the north to the south of Wales. The riders will face over 7,000 feet of climbing each day as they make their way through the mountainous and remote parts of the country.
Mark, a keen cyclist, is no stranger to endurance events, having previously completed the famous Land’s End to John O’ Groats ride (pictured). He has also supported our charity with past fundraising challenges.
Mark originally set himself a fundraising target of £1,000, which he has already surpassed. He has now doubled his goal to £2,000, with every penny raised going towards helping the charity continue its work supporting patients and staff across the Trust.
Speaking about the challenge, he said:
I’ve always enjoyed cycling and love a challenge. When I saw this inaugural event, I thought I’d apply – never expecting to get a place as it’s limited to just 50 riders. To my surprise (and slight trepidation!), I was accepted.
The profile of the ride is tough, with over 7,000 feet of climbing each day. I’ve been training as much as possible around work and holidays, and I’m hoping adrenaline will carry me the rest of the way.
