Junior doctors are planning to go on strike next week from 7am on 13 March to 6.59am on 16 March.

We appreciate that residents will want to know the impact this industrial action will have on our services. We are reviewing what we will be able to run and what we may need to rearrange. We will provide an update as soon as we can.

The British Medical Association say junior doctor pay has been cut by 26% since 2008.

Our Chief Executive, Matthew Trainer said: “I understand why junior doctors are going on strike. I have sympathy for their concerns about the impact of inflation and the cost-of-living crisis on wages. The term ‘junior doctors’ doesn’t do justice to their experience and skill, or to the contribution they make to the running of our hospitals.

“I hope they can reach an agreement with the Government on salaries that will avoid the need for industrial action.

“I know patients will be concerned about how they will be affected. The majority of our doctors are entitled to strike, so this 72-hour walkout will have a significant impact on our Trust.

“It’s likely we will cancel some operations, diagnostic tests and scans, and most outpatient appointments between March 13 and March 16. We may have to reduce the range of emergency services we offer, although we will work hard to avoid this. Our priority will be to provide safe care with a reduced workforce.”
