Giving back to those more in need – we’re re-directing donations during second lockdown
We’re calling on kind residents and local business that were so generous during the first lockdown, to send any donations this time to where they are most needed in the communities we serve.
During the first lockdown, which started in March this year, we, like other NHS trusts across the country, was inundated with donations to help keep staff going. These included over 100,000 hot meals, drinks and snacks, plus 12,500 Easter eggs, as well as wellbeing packs and toiletries.
Tony Chambers, our Chief Executive, said: “We were hugely lucky to receive such generous donations from our community during the last lockdown, all of which were gratefully received.
“However, this time we know our communities, including local businesses and residents, are facing more challenging circumstances than ever. That’s why we’ve decided to encourage those who would like to donate, to help our communities instead, for example by donating to local food banks and homeless shelters. There are vulnerable people in our communities who need your help much more than we do, so please support us to spread this message and ensure help gets to where it is needed most at such a challenging time.”
With the festive season fast approaching, we’ll continue to accept the usual annual donations of toys for our children’s wards and departments. This will ensure young patients are kept amused, and that those who need to be in hospital this Christmas get a present.
