Fire Safety Manager Mark to walk 26 miles for Alzheimer’s Society

This Saturday (5 June) Mark, along with his brothers and son, will take part in an epic 26-mile walk across London in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society, as part of the Trek26 challenge.
Mark, who lives in Brentwood, said: “I’ve done previous fundraising for our Trust Charity, but this time I’m doing it for the Alzheimer’s Society in memory of my aunt - who sadly passed away earlier this year after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
“It’s a cause which is close to my heart; many people will know somebody who is affected by dementia, it can be really difficult.”
The challenge, which involves hundreds of participants, will start and finish at Vauxhall Gardens, with the route taking Mark past some of London’s most iconic sites including landmarks Trafalgar Square and Big Ben.
Mark, who will turn 59 on the day of the walk, explained the special help he has received to prepare: “My family has recently gotten a new dog, so we’ve been taking him on some long practice walks, which has also been helpful as a bit of extra motivation!
“We’ve already risen just over £300 but we would love to get as many people involved as possible - their donations really do make a difference.”
Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading dementia charity that funds research and also offers support for those affected by the disease.
