Decorating our hospitals with children’s Coronation drawings

Winners of coronation comp

We’ve unveiled the winning pictures from our children's art competition, which was a part of the events we held for the King's Coronation.

Winners of our Coronation art competition with Kathryn Halford

Children from across our boroughs were invited to draw, paint, or make a Coronation-theme poster, with the winners in each category being displayed in our hospitals and receiving a goody bag. Staff from across our hospitals were tasked with picking the top four designs to be displayed.

Kathryn Halford with winner Blossom

Blossom Barnes won our age one to five category, with her drawing of King Charles and Queen Camilla.

Kathryn Halford with winner Amelia

Amelia Yeomans won our age six to nine category, which included a drawing of her “nanny” who works on our Children’s wards as a play worker.

Kathryn Halford with winner Sehar

The winner of our age 10 to 12 category was Sehar Saeed, who wowed judges with her Coronation crown and included drawings showing heart-beat rhythm graphs.

Kathryn Halford with winner Yevai

Yevai Benyure impressed the judges, winning our age 13 to 18 category with her space-inspired crown design.

Speaking about her poster, Yevai said: “I wanted to make sure I captured all the qualities of the NHS. I knew I wanted to include the earth to represent all the nurses and doctors who work in healthcare across the earth. The Union Jack is to give thanks to all the NHS staff in the UK.”

Kathryn Halford, our Chief Nurse, said: “We were keen to include local children and their families in our Coronation celebrations. We were delighted to receive such a variety of different designs and it was clear to see how much time the children had spent on them. It was so inspirational and lovely to see.”

The children’s art competition was a part of a package of other events we held to celebrate the King’s Coronation, including staff baking competitions and prizes for the best decorated area, which many staff across our hospitals enjoyed taking part in.
