Prakash Naik, who has worked in the Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU) at Queen’s Hospital for over 19 years, has helped raise funds for our charity, alongside his fellow members of the Enfield Lions Club.

Our consultant Prakash (pictured above left with Lions club member Rajendra Patel), was president of the club for 2021/22 and chose to fundraise for the King George and Queen’s Hospitals Charity. He came to Queen’s Hospital on Wednesday 22 February with other members to hand over a cheque for an impressive £24,000.

Prakash said: “I wanted to give back to the community and do something I was proud of. I have been working at our Trust for a long time, so have seen all the amazing work we do. Everyone in the club has helped tremendously and I couldn’t have done it without them.”

The Lions club is made up of local men and women who come together to help others and all funds they raise go directly to charities.

The money for our charity was raised by hosting a dinner and dance in June last year, as well as numerous donations from the community. It will go towards making our ITU a nicer space for patients, including providing entertainment, comfortable furniture and improving the overall environment.

Prakash added: “ITU is a tough environment and can be extremely traumatic for patients and their families, especially if they’re in hospital for a long time.

“Ten years down the line, I’ll be a happy man knowing that I’ve contributed to the hospital I care for so much.”

Among those at the presentation were Kathryn Halford, our Chief Nurse, Mamta Vaidya, Chief Medical Officer, and George Wood, Chair of our charity.

Kathryn said: “This money will make a real difference. We can humanise the ITU experience for all and make sure we can look after people holistically, not just their physical needs.”
