Resident doctor strike

From Wednesday 17 to Monday 22 December, resident doctors (formerly known as junior doctors) will be taking strike action. During this time, our services will be under increased pressure.

Getting the right care

Please help us make sure emergency care is available for those who need it most:

  • Only attend A&E in life-threatening emergencies.
  • For non-urgent issues, please contact your GP, your local pharmacy, or NHS 111 (online or by phone).

Appointments and planned care

  • If your appointment is affected, we will contact you directly.
  • If you do not hear from us, please attend your appointment as planned.

Construction works starting at King George Hospital for our expanded Surgical Hub

Next week we’re starting our construction work at King George Hospital to expand our Surgical Hub with a £14m upgrade, which will see us complete, on average, at least 16 additional operations per day.

The initial phase of construction will take place in the Cedar Centre on 22 November and will be completed by Christmas. The work will take place during the day Monday to Friday and some Saturday mornings.

Some patients accessing services in or near the Cedar Centre may notice noisy works during this time and to minimise disruption, we’re providing screens to affected windows and will install dust protection to existing doors and openings. Access to patient areas will not be affected during this first phase of construction.

Our expanded Surgical Hub will include two new theatres, upgraded staff facilities, improved storage, and double the number of recovery beds. It is expected to be completed by spring 2024.
