We’re delighted two more of our wards have attained silver and bronze accreditation as part of our ongoing efforts to improve and standardise the quality of care given across our hospitals.

These latest results take the number of silver wards to 11 and bronze wards to 19, meaning 30 wards are now accredited.

Our ward accreditation programme sees units assessed on patient experience, patient safety, staff experience, and efficiency. Wards are assessed by corporate nurses and subject matter experts and are then given a report which highlights areas where they are excelling and also includes improvements needed to progress to the next level.

This week, Chief Nurse Kathryn Halford, Chief Executive Matthew Trainer, and our new site leadership team at Queen’s Hospital visited Sky A ward and the Medical Receiving Unit (MRU) to reveal their results.

Sky A was awarded silver, and it was noted that they were especially strong in working with our Pharmacy team to ensure inpatients have the medication they need.

Jamie Camp, Senior Sister on Sky A, said: “Having ward accreditation means we embed really good practice into our ward and for all of our staff, which means our patients can receive good quality care at all times.”

Deputy Matron Charmaine Marshall added: “I’m incredibly proud of everybody and all of the hard work that we've put in as a team on the ward. This isn't just led by one person, it is by everyone working together and it feels absolutely amazing.”

MRU achieved bronze accreditation, with particular praise for pain management and getting 99 per cent positive feedback from patients during the assessment.

Ward Manager Bridget Martinez said: “This is the third time that we've been assessed and for us to get to where we are at, there’s been so much hard work, but it just goes to show that we have really embedded the practice.”

Well done to everyone on Sky A and MRU!
