We’ve received great feedback about our new training programme for doctors in anaesthesia and intensive care.

BREATHE (BRinging Excellence to Anaesthesia and Healthcare Education) has been set up for our doctors in training who are specialising in anaesthetics and intensive care with the programme being led by Ankit Kumar and Ayub Khan, two of our anaesthetic consultants.

After completing many years of training at BHRUT, Ankit & Ayub felt the Trust had potential to be an excellent training centre for anaesthetics and set up BREATHE for this purpose.

Designed with a personalised approach and a new educational curriculum, this training will enable our doctors to improve patient outcomes and support their professional development.

BREATHE is a continuation of the work going on to train anaesthetists; in the past 18 months, we’ve recruited 10 new consultants who all trained at our Trust.

The initiative has resulted in improved feedback from resident doctors who’ve finished rotations in the specialty.

Ankit said:

We are aiming to be one of the best training centre in London within five years so it’s great to receive positive comments from the doctors who have completed the training.

At a recent induction for new trainees, Chief Executive Matthew Trainer welcomed the doctors to the Trust and spoke about the work going on to improve BHRUT as a place to work.

Matthew said:

We have a real determination to give our staff the best opportunities to develop and BREATHE is an excellent example of that.

Doctors at the start of their careers spend time working in a lot of specialties to decide which area they want to specialise in and BREATHE is a great way of developing our future medical leaders.
