Abiodun and Christiana made a difference

Christina and Abiodun with their IMAD awards

Two of our colleagues have been presented with You Made a Difference awards.

Abiodun Balogun, a senior occupational therapist at King George Hospital received the award after being nominated by a colleague. The nomination credits Abiodun, also known as Abbey, for being a “fantastic leader during the pandemic” and for ensuring the team “continued to work well and give the best care to our patients”.  Abiodun with his award certificate

Abbey implemented service improvement projects for the whole team and developed outcome measures to showcase and highlight the work of his colleagues. He’s also been instrumental in getting mobile phones for therapists to use to liaise with family members affected by visitor restrictions, and is now in the process of helping integrated therapies incorporate technology more into their practice.

The nomination added: “Abbey received special thanks from a patient who was discharged after 80 days in hospital following a fall and fracture. He was able to get the patient home safely rather than having to go on for further rehabilitation.

“Abbey is an asset to the team and does not receive the recognition he deserves!”

Christiana Mensah, a midwife on Coral ward also received the award after being nominated by a patient. The nomination praises Christiana for going “above and beyond” to care for the patient and her baby. Christina with her award certificate

The nomination read: “Christiana was absolutely amazing from the moment we arrived onto the ward until the moment we left. You can tell she really cares for her babies and mums.

"She kept checking on us both, bringing us snacks and tea, anytime I needed help or advice she’d be with us within seconds of pressing the buzzer.

“Her encouragement of me and how I was doing made a world of difference to my confidence.

“I cannot fault Queen’s Hospital for my care, all the staff were amazing, but Christiana sets a high bar. She’s a natural and made for this job. And she really should be recognised for this.”
