These numbers are just a normal month at King George and Queen’s hospitals and a small part of the work our Estates and Facilities colleagues do across our Trust to keep patients safe and our hospitals running.

We're showcasing some of the great work our colleagues do this Estates and Facilities Day.

From cleaning and catering to portering and transport, the teams often work in the background out of sight and their efforts are essential to providing a good experience to patients.

Each day is different for our porters, who do a wide range of tasks including transporting patients, specimens, beds and furniture. On average, our porters do around 36,000 steps each per day.

We have almost 1,500 people working in Estates and Facilities at our hospitals, including staff employed by the Trust and colleagues who work for companies that provide services to us.

These teams work together to keep our hospitals running, including when the boilers at King George Hospital broke down last winter.

Our Director of Estates and Facilities, Sean Greene, said:

I want to thank all our colleagues across Estates, Facilities and Capital Projects and contracting partners for their dedication, professionalism and commitment.

“Whether maintaining our infrastructure, delivering essential services, or creating spaces that support excellent patient care, their work makes a real difference to patients, staff and visitors. Much of what they do happens behind the scenes, but its impact is seen and felt every day.
