Paediatrics Advice and Refer for HOT Clinic at BHRUT

Feedback from enquires suggests sharing information to primary care colleagues about our waiting times for Paediatric HOT clinic referrals. Please find some information below.

Paediatric HOT Clinic

  • The Paediatric HOT Clinic is a general paediatric outpatient clinic for children aged 0–16 years who require an urgent paediatric specialist opinion within 14 working days.

  • It is intended for children who are not unwell enough to require same-day attendance at the emergency department, but who cannot wait for a routine outpatient appointment.

  • The clinic is run by Paediatric Specialty Registrars, Monday to Friday mornings, in the Paediatric Outpatient Department.

  • Patients referred to the HOT clinic will be seen within 2 weeks.

Exclusion criteria (as outlined on e-RS)

  • Acutely unwell children should be referred directly to the Children’s Emergency Department at Queen’s Hospital.

  • Suspected cancers or patients requiring review within 48 hours should be referred to the CYPAU registrar.
