Medical Advice Line for GP Referrals to Acute Medicine

NHS Referral image

From Monday 1 June 2026, BHRUT is introducing a dedicated Medical Advice Line for GPs referring patients to Acute Medicine.

The service has been developed following feedback and will provide GPs with direct access to senior clinical advice, helping ensure patients are directed to the most appropriate care pathway.

The Medical Advice Line aims to:

  • Support GPs with clinical advice and referral decisions.
  • Direct patients to the most appropriate service, including Emergency Departments, mSDEC services, or alternative pathways.
  • Reduce pressure on medical registrars and support the management of acutely unwell patients.

Medical Advice Line: 020 8970 8343

Available: Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 6pm

Outside of these hours, including weekends, GPs should continue to contact the Medical Registrar at the relevant site for advice and referrals.

The service is available for referrals to Acute Medicine at both Queen's Hospital and King George Hospital.
