Endoscopy

Endoscopy is a term for investigations into the digestive system. All stomach and bowel camera procedures are carried out by qualified doctors and nurses who have high levels of specialist expertise. All endoscopists are supported by endoscopy trained nurses and health care assistants.
Both our units are equipped with modern, up-to-date cameras (endoscopes) in order to provide the highest levels of treatment and diagnostic procedures.
We believe patients have the right to receive evidence based treatment and care that reflects the personal needs of the individual, and is provided within a safe and calm environment.
We will provide you with a full report of your procedure before you leave our unit. This means you will be fully informed of the outcome of your procedure.
We will also let you know if you need to have any further investigations.
We welcome feedback and undertake a regular patient satisfaction survey. We also encourage patients to complete the Friends and Family Test. https://www.iwantgreatcare.org/trusts/barking-havering-and-redbridge-university-hospitals-nhs-trust
The Endoscopy service sits within the Surgery Division and is provided across our two hospital sites:
The CDU is a day care facility, consists of five procedure rooms and also accesses the radiology department for procedures requiring radiological imaging. The unit has one recovery area and also one Capsule Endoscopy room. CDU provides services as a day care facility for endoscopy procedures and as a facility for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for inpatients.
The JEU consists of two procedure rooms and one recovery area. It is also a day care facility which provides services like CDU. The diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for inpatients at King George Hospital have been provided in different settings outside JEU during the pandemic (as JEU is part of the Elective Hub and offers a Covid Minimised pathway for our patients) and is due to move to a new Procedure Room after January 2022.
