Stakeholder update from Chief Executive (Interim) Fiona Wheeler: 11 September 2026
I wanted to start by sharing an update on our Q1 National Oversight Framework (NOF) segmentation and league tables. I'm delighted we’ve moved from segment 4 to segment 3 for quarter 1, as well as moving up from 124th to 111th out of 134 acute trusts nationally. This is due to improvements in our performance which as you know, was impacted following the launch of our electronic patient record.
In terms of where we’ve been making progress, we’ve seen a 10% improvement in the Cancer 28-day Faster Diagnosis Standard since April, and 8% in the 62-day standard. We continue to be consistent overall in achieving c.96% in the 31-day standard and should be back on track by the end of this month across the board.
In April this year, 52% of patients waiting for a diagnostic test were waiting longer than the national six-week target. By the end of August, we’d halved this number.
And the work we’ve done to address our waiting lists is having a positive impact, although we’ve seen an increase in patients waiting more than 52 weeks, so we’ll be focusing on this.
In urgent and emergency care, we’re on track to meet the 82% target by the end of the year for All Types.
There is still plenty more for us to do, particularly as we continue to address our financial position, however I'm pleased we're moving in the right direction thanks to the hard work of our staff.
Some of these colleagues were celebrated at our long service awards this week. Between them, those recognised have given an incredible 8,385 years of service to our Trust. I’d like to thank each and every one of them for their dedication and for the contribution they have made to our hospitals, our patients and local communities over so many years.
I had the pleasure recently of visiting Saint Francis Hospice, one of our close partners, and spent time discussing how we can continue to work together and support more care in the community. I was particularly impressed by their recently refurbishments – they’ve created a wonderful environment where people can feel comfortable and valued. Thank you to the team for such a warm welcome and for the opportunity to discuss how we can strengthen our partnership even further.
We've also held our Annual General Meeting, where we reflected on the past year. You can watch the recording back and read our annual report on our website.
I'd like to finish by wishing our Jewish staff, patients and communities who are celebrating Rosh Hashana a happy new year.
