Resident doctor strike

From Tuesday 7 to Monday 13 April, resident doctors (formerly known as junior doctors) will be taking strike action. During this time, our services will be under increased pressure.

Getting the right care

Please help us make sure emergency care is available for those who need it most:

  • Only attend A&E in life-threatening emergencies.
  • For non-urgent issues, please contact your GP, your local pharmacy, or NHS 111 (online or by phone).

Appointments and planned care

  • If your appointment is affected, we will contact you directly.
  • If you do not hear from us, please attend your appointment as planned.

Dear Patient,

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing to you to inform you that Dr. Alex Hooi will be retiring from our clinic at the end of September. Although he has officially retired he will still continue to work at the clinic for a few more months until a suitable replacement is found.

Dr. Hooi founded the service at Barking Community Hospital as lone consultant in 1992. He led the service for many years and has played a big part in developing the clinic to what it is today.

I know that many of you have developed a close relationship with Dr. Hooi over the years and that this will be difficult to hear that he will be leaving. Please be reassured that we will continue to provide the same standard of care.

I am sure many of you would like to pass on your best wishes to Dr. Hooi however at this time the clinic is extremely busy so please do not contact the clinic to speak to Dr. Hooi directly regarding his retirement. I am sure over the next few months Dr. Hooi will contact you all individually and speak with you before he leaves.

Dr. Hooi has had a very close relationship with many of you and as parting gift we thought it would be a nice idea to collect messages from his patients on a DVD so that he can remember you all.

If you would like to send Dr. Hooi a message please either record a short voice message or video message and send to the following email address - barking.administrators@nhs.net

Yours sincerely,

Barking Hospital
