Chronic fatigue outpatient service

Our service is based at Queen’s Hospital and provides joint medical occupational therapy assessment, counselling and physiotherapy. We also provide follow-up after the completion of treatment. Our approach is based on principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Graded Activity/Exercise Therapy.

Our main intake clinic is on Wednesday afternoons, from 2pm. Other sessions may take place on any day of the week depending on availability.

Who will see me and what will my treatment involve?

You will be seen for a joint intake assessment with the consultant and the occupational therapist. If diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), you will then have treatment sessions with the occupational therapist. There will also be sessions with the counsellor and/or the physiotherapist if needed.

Is this a specialist service?

Yes. Members of the team have extensive experience in working with CFS patients.

What happens after I have completed my treatment? 

You will either be discharged or will be invited to regular follow-up appointments if it is felt this would be beneficial.

Do you follow NICE guidelines?

Yes. Treatment is holistic and includes principles of Graded Activity Graded Exercise Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Treatment plans are personalised and tailor made.
