Resident doctor strike

From Wednesday 17 to Monday 22 December, resident doctors (formerly known as junior doctors) will be taking strike action. During this time, our services will be under increased pressure.

Getting the right care

Please help us make sure emergency care is available for those who need it most:

  • Only attend A&E in life-threatening emergencies.
  • For non-urgent issues, please contact your GP, your local pharmacy, or NHS 111 (online or by phone).

Appointments and planned care

  • If your appointment is affected, we will contact you directly.
  • If you do not hear from us, please attend your appointment as planned.

Bereavement service

Our bereavement officers provide an administrative role liaising with doctors, wards, mortuary staff and external agencies on your behalf. We ensure the efficient issuing of all the necessary paperwork and we can also provide initial advice about how to register a death and make arrangements.

We have produced two bereavement booklets – one for Queen’s Hospital and one for King George Hospital. They can be downloaded below. They are intended to offer reassurance, give suggestions about where to find help, information on some of the practical matters to be tackled, as well as advice on coping with the loss.

Our Chaplaincy service can also provide comfort and support at this difficult time, to people of all faiths and of none. Please ask a member of staff to contact the chaplains for you, or alternatively you can visit our multi-faith prayer rooms or chapels.
