Voluntary Work
The help that voluntary workers provide is invaluable to the departments that they work in. There are various areas where the volunteers help out, including wards, outpatient clinics, accident & emergency and the information desks. The duties vary, but include making refreshments for patients, directing and escorting patients, or answering enquiries. On the wards a volunteer may help to fill out menu cards for the patients, give out the meals or generally help the staff. We have a few befrienders who will sit and talk to those patients who do not receive many visitors.
All the volunteers are very conscientious and work very hard in their different areas. The departments where they are working appreciate the help of the voluntary workers through coffee mornings. This gives them the opportunity to meet and talk to each other.
We also have an outing in the summer and a meeting with lunch at Christmas each year. We have visited many nice places, including Windsor, Hastings, Brighton, Margate and Henley on Thames.
Have you a few hours to spare?
Would you like to join a team of voluntary workers?
Volunteers can provide the personal service for patients that may not be necessary for their medical care, but can add so much to their hospital stay, or visit to an outpatient clinic.
Volunteers can undertake tasks which can free the staff to concentrate on their skilled duties.
There are various departments where help is needed including wards, outpatient clinics, accident & emergency and the information desks.
