“We will take action to recruit and promote people from all backgrounds at every level and across professions in our organisation, because of the added value, knowledge and personal qualities they bring”

This statement is one of the values taken from the Trust’s Race Equality Scheme. The commitment can be applied to other aspects of diversity, e.g. gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, culture, as well as race.

Our well established Equality Strategy Group takes this work forward. The Group looks at equality issues as they affect both staff and patients and has taken principles from the Trust’s Race Equality Scheme, the ‘Disability Two Ticks’ standards and the Improving Working Lives standard as frameworks for taking the work forward. The group regularly reports to the Board and to Staff Side.

The Trust ensures that staff feel they are valued and treated with dignity and respect and that managers are trained and are delivering fair employment practice and equality of opportunity.

Procedures and policies are in place covering bullying, harassment, whistle blowing and discrimination and information on recruitment, training and other HR matters is monitored and evaluated on a regular basis to improve practices.
